Congratulations! You are arrived in Berlin!
Whatever the reasons are, you’ll embark your new journey in the capital city of Germany. This post is specially made for those who come to Germany (especially Berlin) and planning to reside in Berlin.
Often in new country, expats have no idea what to do first, how obtain a bank account, how to find a place to stay, and all other basic necessities. I know…. I know… I had been in your shoes.
This list is based on my own experiences and it might not be up-to-date with your current situation. Please always double check before taking any actions.
First timer (before flight to Germany)
- Apply for a visa at the Germany Embassy in your country of residence.
- Once you receive your visa, book your flight ticket.
- Book your temporary residence from Airbnb, HousingAnywhere, Wunderflats, Spotahome, Booking.com, or similar services.
First timer (once you are in Germany)
- Make an appointment for your visa with Ausländerbehörder.
- Find a permanent living space.
- Make an appointment with Bürgeramt or Standesamt for Anmeldung. You will get Meldebescheinigung. (Registration Certificate).
- Bring your Meldebescheinigung to the bank and open a local bank account.
- *Additionally, your Meldebescheinigung is usually required to activate a local SIM Card.
Seems easy? It is, if all of the appointments are easily made. It takes some times to be able to secure an appointment with all of those government’s offices. So, be patient and I wish you all good luck!
